Eliezer Yudkowsky came up with the idea of a Bayesian conspiracy (or the Bayesian Conspiracy), less than half in jest, as the idea that the public good of a wide and deep understanding of Bayesian reasoning would be better served if we were to have the trappings of a secret society.
