The term artificial intelligence can have anthropomorphic connotations. In some contexts, it might be useful to speak of a really powerful optimization process rather than a superintelligence. A nonanthropomorphic, nonsentient AI isn't a successor-species to humanity, or a God to rule us all. It is simply a very powerful device that can drastically affect the future in precise ways.
