My name is John Salvatier.

I organize the Seattle LW group.

I'm a Chemical engineer by training, programmer and statistician by trade.

I am a major contributor to PyMC, a python library for doing Bayesian inference and focusing on popularizing cutting edge inference techniques.

Interests

  • Bayesian computation
  • Popularizing general but powerful statistical techniques like Hamiltonian Monte Carlo
  • Salsa dancing
  • Fashion/style
  • Functional programming/elegant programs/proving things about code
  • How to have the most fun with friends
  • Monetary economics

I have a blog I occasionally post to. I have some articles worth reading on statistics. I also have some articles worth reading on monetary economics which are relatively sane. I don't encourage you learn about monetary economics you already have an established interest. It's a lot like politics, in that it's pretty mind killing and not very useful even if you are correct.
